Scope

This semester-long project was one of my favorites. We were tasked to create a brand that solved a pressing issue within an industry. I decided to focus on agriculture and food insecurity. I discovered that there could be a link between helping with the wasting of food and the eradication of food deserts within America. Thus, Milkbox was born.

With Milkbox’s logo direction, I wanted to create a safe, fun icon that was recognizable. After numerous variations, I realized that a cow’s head has a similar shape to a milk bottle. I created the logo you see above, and fell in love. Through much consideration, Milkbox’s logo was finally realized.

Milkbox is a dairy subscription box service that focuses on eliminating as much milk waste as possible. It is true that dairy cows must me milked multiple times a day, which leads to the overproduction of milk. Milkbox takes that “unwanted” milk and uses it for their products. This brand is unique because food stamps can be used to pay for the boxes. Families of lower incomes and who live within food deserts now have access to dairy and dairy-free foods.

From the conception of Milkbox, I knew that packaging was going to be an important aspect of the brand. Indicative of the loose, quirky drawings on the website, I wanted to translate that into milk, cheese, and yogurt packaging. I wanted to create dairy packaging that is unlike anything on the market today. Just like the overall brand, the packaging is warm, inviting, and fun for the whole family to enjoy.

One of the largest aspects of Milkbox’s brand was the functionality of its website. I knew that I wanted the website to be clear yet fun. With both web and mobile versions, I made sure that the branding of the website was readable for all individuals, including people who have color-corrective vision issues. Below are some screens and mockups of the website in action.

I wanted Milkbox to feel as friendly and inviting as possible. I decided to create merchandise for the brand because I believe that tangible wares give all sorts of brands humility. Milkbox offers shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and even a ceramic milk set.
